This weekend worried me. Most every month I have at least a couple of days where I am very weak and am unable to do much of anything. Well this weekend were my days. It is also the first episode since we decided to homeschool. After briefly doubting our decision... "will I still be able to HS and still deal with my physical reality?" I realized that even if I really couldn't do anything for a few days it wouldn't be a big deal considering how fast he learns when interested. But also in a weekend where I could barely leave the couch/bed he Xander discovered multiplication! He was looking over my shoulder while I played on my new ds. I love the educational games (yes i know I'm a geek) and so i switched over to the junior version of the game and we played it together. He did 'fill in the missing letter' games and then moved on to geometry and multiplication. He did a great job and never asked to switch games. He even took it over after awhile. By the end he had figured out 2 x ... and 10 x ... (at least preliminarily). He was so excited to be learning a new math.
He also started writing a new season of avatar (a nick jr TV show that has since stopped airing) this weekend that would take place in the future from where the actual show finished. He is just at a very beginning concept level and of course, being that he hates writing, described more than he actually wrote down but it was so interesting to see his imagination take off. It was also one of the first creative "writing" spurts that diverged from a "repeat what has already been created" type of writing.
